Tent #5 Observes Memorial Day, 2007

We joined the Civil War Community in San Diego on May 28, 2007 to honor a Medal of Honor recipient, James Granville Thompson who is buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery on “GAR Hill”.

We are proud of our Past President, Barbara Mondt, (Pvt. Ferdinand Zunkel, Co. F,72nd Illinois Inf. and Sgt. James B. Clark, Co. B, 17th Illinois Cavalry) who found, and invited to San Diego, far-flung relatives of James and his brother, Allen, who received the Medal of Honor at the same engagement.

James Granville Thompson’s daughter-in-law, wife of William E. Thompson, James’ son, received the memorial flag.
